1. Can you explain the construction and finish of Rainsford & Gale™ potracks?
All Rainsford & Gale™ potracks are fabricated in our Massachusetts facility from the finest quality metals and materials available. In many of our designs, precision metal castings are welded by our craftsmen into a framework of wrought iron construction. Solid iron rings are then welded into each corner of this framework to provide four hanging points, two more than what is commonly found in other products. These four hanging points allow the potrack to support twice the weight in pots and pans of many other designs with fewer hanging points. This also yields a very big safety margin ensuring that your potrack will be very safely suspended from your ceiling.
Potracks are supplied in our standard “dark wrought” finish which is an environmentally friendly powder coating paint that is baked on each potrack at an elevated temperature. This yields a very tough finish that has unique black and brown undertones, with a non-gloss finish that helps to hide any dust buildup. Please consult us for other custom finishes which are available should you have other specific requirements.
Several models of Rainsford & Gale™ potracks are fabricated from 304/302 stainless steel. Potrack design components are cut from solid one-quarter inch thick stainless steel plate by a computer controlled water jet which yields crisp, but smooth, design lines. Stainless steel components are then welded or assembled, and hand buffed for a rich, luminescent finish that tends to hide fingerprints. None of our products are plated as plating tends to wear off over time and readily shows smudges.
All Rainsford & Gale™ products come with a three-year warranty on workmanship.
2. How do you install a Rainsford & Gale™ potrack?
The installation of our hanging potracks is very straight forward. Ceiling mounted potracks are suspended in the four corners from eye lag bolts that must be securely screwed into the ceiling joists. Joists can be located by using a stud finder. If your ceiling joists are not in the right location, mark where the appropriate location should be and then drill small pilot holes through the ceiling. You can then use these holes to mark and install cross braces which can be added between the joists at these points from the attic above. Pre-drill pilot holes for the eye hooks then screw them into the joists or cross braces. With new construction or renovation, potrack installation can be easily accommodated by identifying the appropriate location over your kitchen island or peninsula, and installing any cross braces as required before the ceiling sheetrock is installed.
The potrack height is set in 3 ½ inch increments by using the desired number of Hanger Links provided. Additional Links can be purchased for tall ceilings requiring a larger than normal drop.
3. How much weight can you hang from a Rainsford & Gale™ potrack?
When properly installed, the eye hooks provided are each rated for a “suspended weight load” of 120 pounds. The four hooks provided thus give the potrack a safe load rating up to 450 pounds after allowing for the approximate 30 pounds weight of our potracks. With the heaviest copper clad pots and cast iron skillets weighing approximately 5 to 7 pounds, our potracks can safely handle a large array of pots and pans. This installation will not safely support the weight of any hanging people!
4. How easy is it to order a custom potrack?
Rainsford & Gale™ prides itself on meeting the specific and unique kitchen potrack needs of designers and home owners. For a custom potrack order, all that is required for a quote is for you to call (781.749.3087), email (sales@rainsfordandgale.com) or send us the design style theme (e.g. in the “Classic” style) along with the overall dimensions of the island or counter top it will be hung over. Generally, potracks should come to within no more than six inches of the outside dimension to allow for head clearance of anyone working at the counter. We will then get back to you with a recommended size and pricing.
Requirements for unique finishes can also be accommodated as powder coatings are available in weathered bronze and copper, and various appropriate solid colors.
Custom fabricated potracks normally take between 6 to 8 weeks for delivery.
5. What hardware comes with my potrack?
Each Rainsford & Gale™ ceiling hung pot rack comes with (4) Ceiling Eye Hooks, (8) 3 ½ inch Hanger Links, and (12) “S” Pot Hooks, all in a similar finish to the respective pot rack ordered. Extra Hanger Links and Pot Hooks can be ordered separately.
6. How is my unit shipped?
Product is normally shipped through UPS and fully insured. If desired, we can send items out through the US Mail or Federal Express if the customer can provide us with a shipping number.
